"SIE SIND DAS ESSEN UND WIR SIND DIE JÄGER!!!!" Ahaha, after spending weeks watching reblogged text post after reblogged gif, after reblogged complaints about Grown ups 2 potentially outdoing it in box office ratings, I knew it would only be a short amount of time before you did something along the lines of this. Given that you have so much influence over me as well as other fans, I went on to research about this film a little. (And good thing I did to, so I'm not pulling all the info I know currently out of my posterior) I won't trail on for too long about this, and in fact will only have one or two sentences but I must say in my opinion from a unbiased and un-inner-8-year-old-robot-lover, I must say this film looks great. I have heard there are clichés, and several parts of the movie that would be best left omitted from a big speilberg esque production, but let's be honest, at least from what I've gotten at, I'm sure that's not what the general focus of this movie was intended to be. At least from what I'm getting at, this is that movie that we've always wanted to see in our childhood and our inner geekiness wants to see metal kick mutated alien keister. And beyond that, given the rapidly growing fandom and aspiring infatuation for such a genre has made this the metaphorical catalyst for quality movies impending in the future. And that just sounds like a weird metaphor, but oh well. Now that I've covered the origin and vision of this art, hows about we get started on the fun part? Well, fun for me since I get to drone on and on about your wonderful art. It might be less so for you. Probably the first thing that stands out to me in this piece of art is your seamless art. I'm not saying this to stroke your ego, or so that you won't get upset with me for the flaws I should probably stop mentioning and just allow you to attribute to the schedule of these arrangements. One of the major strong points I need to be sure to commend you more for is your style over all, and how it boosts my fascination for your artwork to astronomical levels. Guitar, I cannot stress enough how well you pull this off. Maybe it's because you're a skilled and well aged artist with limitless unrelenting craft in terms of creating artistic depictions of anything you can imagine, or maybe it's because you beat my uncle in a fiddling competition down 'n Georgia. During said competition, he tried to covet your soul under the assumption he bested you in a guitar rock-off duel. Yet you refuse to confirm actually happened. Hmp. It's still hard to believe some divine deity isn't giving you the power to super-draw, because you really are magnificent in all your works. I'm not saying you're without flaws, because believe me I am just about to be the most meticulous crabby grump you ever had the misfortune of meeting. Another thing I must commend you on is your shading, and the improved glowing effect. I'm not going to be some egotistical prig, but I believe regardless of if my mentioning of it in the last critique has anything to do with it or not, your art has improved tenfold because of the adjustments. Whatever that fuzzy wuzzy stuff was in the haunted house that you got rid of here, has resulted in an overall better appeal without a doubt. One thing I must say hasn't improved since my last word dump- I mean critique is the fancy nancy word style. GUITAR, I THOUGHT I MADE MYSELF VERY CLEAR. YOUR HANDWRITING IS FANCY AND ALL.BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT IS VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY DIFFICULT TO DECIPHER WHEN YOU SLANT IT, OR TURN IT, OR TWIST IT, OR ALTER IT IN ANY DEFINABLE WAY SUCH AS WHAT HAS BEEN BRAZENLY PRESENTED IN STRAIGHT HORIZONTAL FORMAT.Er hem. In other words, the background behind you yourself, with a quite.....awry, which we will get back to, nosebleed, is confusing and quite distracting. If it's word, I have no idea what it's supposed to say in the slightest, and if it's buildings/some sort of backdrop, well let's just say I know who to call if the next Dr. Seuss movie adaptation needs a background artist. And if it has some relevance to the plot in some manner, please do excuse and pardon my ignorant sass in this regarding. However, either way, it is quite distracting from an onlooker's point of view. While on the topic of backgrounds, I apologize, but I must say that Kaiju's background is rather cliché and overused. I mean really? It looks like something out of an advice animal. I can picture the caption being something like: "GRGRGAGAGRAGRAGARG" in that bland and obnoxious black outlined meme text. I suppose if this was a gif and the lines were moving, it might have worked way better, but I'm just not feeling it with this one. Maybe it's just me, but that effect is just blandly overused. It may not be too bland in this context, as it certainly draws attention to the monster in the center, however I just think something more creative or original could have been devised for it. For example. I love what you did with the robot just above the Kaiju. This may not have been what you intended when you drew this but the buildings bear an uncanny and striking resemblance to the stereotypical row of movie seats. While true it does make the robot look a tad bit smaller, it still gives off a "In your face detail, 3D, Intense Sci-fight. And when you think about this, considering you most likely did watch this movie in theaters, it's almost persuading me to fall prey to the assumption this was your great big intentional master plan all along. Great Scott, Guitar. Well, since I've already commented on the first three, I might as well finish the job and give my unwanted two cents on the last two clip's backgrounds. For starters, I do really like the second to last one. I'm not sure if he's supposed to be ripping through the screen, or floating through space like a boss, but either way, he accomplishes both in my book. The shading is freaking briiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant on the robot, and I cannnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooot get over the whole lightning flash esque light palette he is colored with. The way you depicted the pose, and how the drew that one panel is probably my favorite part of this whole drawing. The epic, bold statement it sets fourth is like a rally cry to artists everywhere.....The courage, and tremendous amounts of sheer badassery...as if to scream...At least I got my chicken.... The Leeroy Jenkins unequaled rage and bloodlust. It is enough to make this evil mastermind tear up and wipe said tears on his pants. Congratulations, Guitar, you've made me wipe my hands on my pants whilst eating barbecue for the sake of this over-dramatization. You crude hearted being. The last frame comes off to me as more of a last second addition, or foot notes given that it has more to do with the connection between Pacific Rim and Attack On Titan than the actual art itself. I could be wrong, but it just seems punch line esque in a sense. Moving on however, I must say that overall it not only compliments to color scheme that was used above, but extending to the color green alongside the other makes the palette more diverse and without question more appealing to the eye. That and you're just good at drawing angry people. I can't word that with a sophisticated twist to it, because I'm trying to maintain the unbiased equilibrium between criticizing and commending. Well, one last thing that stuck out to me aside from the lack of a giant watermark (Good) is the blood (Not as good) on your nose. (Ouch) You see I get how blood dries, and even how it flows, really, but in this picture it sort of just looks like crude colored paper that was scrunched up and shoved in your right nostril and wrapped around your lip, then tucked in front of your teeth. Your facial expression is priceless however, even if the way you draw an exaggerated pupil isn't exactly my favorite feature alongside your style's quirks. In most scenarios it works, and improves the over all appeal drastically, but here it just looks like you're unhappy, you're in grievous pain, and you're about to be put out of your misery by an oncoming missile. However, I will state that, for the sake of playing a snooty artistic inquiry collector guy and devil's advocate, this movie was in fact like an oncoming missile as it took everyone by surprise with it's alleged epicness and alien on robot action. I mean. Alien. Versus. Robot actiob. Bluh. WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME EVERY TIME I WRITE A CRITIQUE FOR YOU. Whatever, well point is, great work overall, try to steer clear of remotely mainstream clichés in the future, make more unintentionally/intentionally genius features and aspects of your artwork, and be sure to get me a nice, warm, cup of coffee tomorrow evening. Not sure how exactly you'll get it to me, or why you would be doing so, I just needed a good note to conclude this on. Thank you for bearing through this whole thing, under the assumption you didn't just breeze through, and given that incredulous look you are without a doubt not giving right now, I will assume you didn't. It has been yet again, a pleasure, Guitar. Hope to be able to critique many more works in the future. Inferno, out.
